2: RepairI reactivate.2: Repair by PuppeteerM
The right half of my back has been removed and my internal systems are being rewired. The man doing so swears as sparks from the damaged components land on his ankle.
I am in a maintenance shop, clearly subterrainean. The lighting flickers often, plunging the gray walls into momentary blackness. Countless tools are on the metal tables on the far walls, as well as a number of fabricated parts.
Word choice when describing the room is unusually detailed. Process is corrected. The mechanic speaks.
"... Well, I'll be damned. She said your systems might be too screwed up from the fall to be fixed. Guess she owes me a twenty." He chuckles and reconnects another wire.
For the first time in undamaged memory, I speak.
"Who is she?"
The man pauses in his work and sets down his tools. I hear him as he walks around me to my front; his boots are made from metal lined with some sort of insulator. Facial hair growth indicates that he has not shaved in at least one hundred sixty three hou
1: HopeI reactivate.1: Hope by PuppeteerM
I am being carried by a soldier through the rubble. The buildings in this district are mostly intact. The soldier is resistance. He wears no armor. Analysis indicates that he has two magazines remaining; the one used by his rifle is below full capacity. The weapon itself is worn. The hard corners are gone. The barrel's temperature indicates that it has been fired recently. He is moving at a rate of approximately eight kilometers per hour. His heart rate approaches two hundred beats per minute.
He speaks. "Ha! Thank Christ, you're awake! Greene thought you might be done done done done done done."
Error. Memory systems damaged. Resuming at next readable point.
I am placed in a small gap between the rocks. The soldier adjusts me so that I might be best hidden. He bleeds from a cut on his forehead now. Automatic weapons fire somewhere nearby. They are shortly joined by near-simultaneous shots from coilguns.
"Okay, listen, you're going to-"
He is interrupted by a loud hum as a
Allele, Chapter Five: PreparationsRequiem walked through the dim alley close to midnight, Threnody trailing close behind him. They both wore hoods and bandanas for fear of being recognized and kept only Threnody’s knife and Requiem’s picks. They strolled up to a seemingly innocent bit of brick wall, a shade darker than the rest. Requiem knocked twice, then whistled a five-note tune.Allele, Chapter Five: Preparations by PuppeteerM
The wall immediately slid open and to the side, revealing the thin form of Grigori standing in the white fluorescent light. He ushered the two in with his trademark sleazy salesman’s smile and a toss of his short black hair, revealing his intelligent green eyes, which darted about both of his hooded customers at least half a dozen times. He knew both of them well, but was far too cautious to believe first glances.
The three of them turned a corner into a small clean room, absolutely covered in weapon racks on all available walls. The vast majority contained standard assault rifles and pistols, accompanied by an occasional
Allele, Chapter Four: Enter FaithIteri laid in the bed with Faith, staring at the ceiling blankly as tears rolled down her eyes. She turned to her girlfriend and looked at her light blonde hair and brown eyes, an uncommon combination, to say the least.Allele, Chapter Four: Enter Faith by PuppeteerM
Faith looked Iteri straight in the eyes. "Do you want to tell me what happened?"
Iteri sighed and sat up. "You're aware of what the Ensia are, right?" Faith propped herself against the bed's headboard, a grim look on her face. "Promise you won't be mad, no matter what I say?"
"Of course. Why would I be?"
"I'm an Ensia," she blurted. "First off."
Faith moved in a bit closer. "I don't see what's wrong with that." A bit more worry started to show on her face. "So... How many have you killed?"
She sighed. "Counting tonight? Six, I think. Two of them were handlers, two were in self defense, and..." She stared at the floor.
"One was for a good reason, and another..." Faith continued for her.
"... Was in mercy." Iteri closed her eyes and let her head drop.
"Aw, come now..." Fa
